Woman receives repeated calls in scam

1 min read

Southwest Regional police are investigating a scam where a man who claimed he was from Jamaica repeatedly called a Belle Vernon woman, offering her $3 million – if she sent him money first.

Chief John Hartman said in a release that the 83-year-old victim called police and said that the man claimed he was from Kingston, and called up to seven times daily between 7:30 a.m. and 11 p.m.

The man requested the woman, whom police did not identify, send him $300. In return, he told her he would send her $1 million.

“When the victim refused, the caller advised that he forgot, she was awarded a bonus prize and for a fee of $80, she would receive $3 million,” Hartman wrote.

Police contacted the man, who hung up on them when he was questioned about his identity.

Anyone with information is asked to call police 724-929-8484 or send a private message on the department’s Facebook page.
