Local soldier honored
A local soldier was recently presented with a token of appreciation for his service and bravery by the New Salem American Legion Ladies Auxillary Post#753. SSG Jaric Kuhn from 2D Stryker Calvary Alpha Co 1st Squadron Regiment was awarded the US Army commandation medal with valor after taking small arms fire and his machine gun jammed. He was Squad leader in command of two trucks when this happened in August 2010 in Afghanistan.
The Army issued the following statement:
SSG Kuhn’s technical knowledge & ability to adapt and disregard to personal safety contributed to the successful accomplishment of the mission.His actions are in keeping with the finest of military traditions & bring credit upon himself 1st Squadron 2D Stryker Calvary Regiment & the U.S. Army.
Jaric is the son of Bruce & Lori (Pasquale)Kuhn of New Salem.
