Light the Night Walk
Light the Night participants will be gathering at Bud Murphy’s Bar and Grill, Connellsville, on Tuesday, at 5:30 p.m. for the annual kickoff party.
The party goers will enjoy refreshments, listen to the stories of those touched by blood cancers, pick up fundraising materials and have a great time with people who share a passion for curing blood cancers.
This event marks the official start of the “Light the Night Season” which lasts until October and culminates with the four Western Pennsylvania Light the Night Walks.
The Southwest PA walk will be held on Sept. 24 at Laurel Highlands High School. Registration, children’s activities, food and entertainment begin at 5:30 p.m. and the walk begins at 7:30 p.m. For a minimum $25 donation, walkers carry an illuminated balloon to celebrate or commemorate those touched by blood cancer.
The support at any level will help to provide local patients with the assistance they need to make cancer treatment as comfortable as possible and fund important research efforts.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is fully aware of the economy and as a result our request for patient financial aid is up 31 percent from this time last year.
Patients and their families that never needed our support are now turning to us for assistance.
Funds raised will benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Western Pennsylvania/West Virginia Chapter’s mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and Hodgkin’s disease and improve the quality of life for local patients.
Sen. Richard Kasunic will return this year as the honorary Light the Night Walk chairman, along with Jacque Joseph of CMG Inc. and Bill Day of Duke Energy, as corporate walk co-chairs.
