Vigil unites California community following murder

A candlelight vigil Monday evening in honor of Evelyn Stepko, the 92-year-old California Borough woman who was found stabbed to death in her home a week ago drew about 100 members from the community.

“We are here tonight to honor, acknowledge and remember Evelyn Stepko, and for the older people in our community, to let them know California is a safe place to live,” said Shelly Wilson, one of the event organizers.
