The East End Concerned Citizens Group will be hosting a block party to celebrate the National Night Out on Aug. 2.

The National Night Out, held in collaboration with Uniontown police, the city’s fire department, the Weed and Seed Team and Target, aims to increase community and police partnerships, and awareness of neighborhood crime watch programs.

The event will run from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the corner of Collins Avenue and Austin Street in Uniontown. The Night Out campaign is a national effort that has been ongoing for 28 years through the National Association of Town Watch.

The first year, 400 communities in 23 states participated. More and more people have participated over the years, and last year, 37 million people in 15,110 communities across the country took part in the event.

At the city’s National Night Out, there will be food, entertainment, educational activities, along with information on police and community programs.

East End Concerned Citizens Group is a grassroots initiative led by residents, property owners and community leaders that seeks to improve the neighborhood. The group’s goal is to create and maintain a productive, healthy and safe community through programs such as community cleanups, neighborhood watches, advocacy and education.
