Police say man chased with knife, rock
A Uniontown man is behind bars after he allegedly assaulted another man and then chased him while wielding a knife and a rock in Uniontown on Saturday night.
Uniontown police Officer Matthew S. Painter said Roosevelt Lee Bell, 38, of Apartment E, 38 N. Gallatin Ave. was charged before Magisterial District Judge Mike Defino Jr. with terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment following the incident on Pearl Street.
Painter said police responded to the location around 10:39 p.m. for a report of a man, later identified as Bell, chasing Eric Dorsey, 40, also of Uniontown, while armed with a rock and a knife.
Painter said the Dorsey told police that the incident occurred after he became concerned about the well-being of his ex-wife following uncharacteristic phone calls and text messages.
Dorsey told police that he went to his ex-wife’s residence to check on her welfare and the welfare of their children and found his ex-wife crying.
While trying to ascertain what was happening, Dorsey told police that Bell approached him from the rear of his ex-wife’s home and told Dorsey, “I’m gonna end you,” Painter said.
Dorsey tried to explain that he was only checking on the welfare of his children and ex-wife and didn’t want trouble when Bell kicked him twice in the groin and punched him in the face, Painter said.
Painter said Dorsey then tried to walk away from the scene but Bell pursued him wielding a knife in one hand and a large rock in the other.
Painter said Bell threatened to kill Dorsey during the pursuit.
Dorsey was able to call 911 while being pursued and police took Bell into custody without incident.
Painter said he refused to speak with police regarding the incident other than stating, “I don’t know what happened up there.”
Bell was placed in Fayette County Prison on $7,500 straight cash bond following his arraignment.
A preliminary hearing is tentatively set for 11:15 a.m. Aug. 9 before Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros.
