Uniontown police investigate shots fired
Uniontown police are investigating after multiple shots were fired near the corner of Fayette Street and Feathers Avenue early Friday.
Officer Jeremy Schult said police were summoned to the area of Splash Bar for a report of shots fired around 5 a.m.
Police found several people in the area but were unable to determine the source of the shots.
Schult said as police continued to investigate, officers discovered a Ruger pistol stashed underneath the tire of a vehicle parked at the scene, as well as multiple shell casings fired from different caliber guns.
Schult said officers recovered 11 9mm casings, one .40-caliber casing and one .45-caliber casing.
Police are continuing to investigate.
The shots fired at the intersection of Fayette and Feathers was one of two reports of shots fired investigated by Uniontown police Friday morning as shots also were reported around 1 a.m. on Lenox Street.
The incidents are also two of nearly a dozen reports of shots fired or shooting incidents reported in Uniontown in the last week.
Chief Jason A. Cox said that the spike in incidents involving gunshots being fired is being closely monitored by police and that officers are investigating each case.
“Our primary focus, day in and day out, is the safety and security of the residents of Uniontown and we are working to try and quell all violent activity, including reports of shots fired, in the city,” Cox said.
