Willis E. Cupp Jr., 83 years, of Fairchance, Pennsylvania died Thursday, July 28, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving Family.

He was born Wednesday, November 2, 1927 the son of Willis E. Cupp and Jennie M. Collins Cupp in Fairchance.

Willis was a very dedicated life member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fairchance and previously served on the Deacon Board.

He was a member of Laurel Lodge 651 F&AM, Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Valley Lodge of Perfection 14th Degree, the American Legion Post 342 in Fairchance, the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, the National Mine Rescue Association, the Mine Rescue Veterans of Pittsburgh, Southwestern Pennsylvania Safety Association.

He served in the United States Coast Guard as a Merchant Marine during World War II.

Willis was employed from 1947 at the Duquesne Light’s Warwick Mine and then with the United States Bureau of Mines until his retirement in 1989.

He always had a very good sense of humor, and no matter what, he always had time to mentor his colleagues and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Clara Mae Cupp Wilson; half sister, Anna Cupp Cooley; and his wife of 61 years who died on Friday, September 3, 2010, Myra Jean McDougle Cupp.

Willis was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and left to cherish his memory are four daughters: Lonnie Olbeter and husband Michael, Greensburg, Pennsylvania, Linda Thorpe and her husband Bill of Greenwood, Indiana, Lauren Leone and husband Don of Smock, Pennsylvania, Kimberly Wright and husband Jeff, Uniontown, Pennsylvania two sons: Willis E. “Bill” Cupp III and wife Emily of Ball Ground, Georgia and Kevin C. Cupp of Fairchance; twelve grandchildren: Heather and Michael Olbeter, Michelle McFarland, Ryan Thorpe, Janelle and Nick Leone, Sean and Marissa Wright, Willis E. Cupp IV, Emory and Elisha Cupp, Joshua Stenger; three great grandchildren: Taegan McFarland, Alexander Olbeter and Hannah Olbeter; brother-in-law, John Calvin McDougle and wife Ethel of Uniontown; nephews: Robert Wilson and wife Arlene and Ronald Wilson and wife Joanne; and a niece, Tammy Yarris and husband Mark.

Family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa. today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. and on Monday, August 1, 2011 until 11 a.m., the hour of Service with Pastor Robert J. Robinson officiating.

Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pennsylvania.
