Two men face vandalism charges at California University

By Josh Krysak 2 min read

?California University of Pennsylvania police filed charges against two Pittsburgh area men accused of vandalizing two cars used by the school’s parking and transportation office.

Detective Josh Mrosko said Tyler Ballengee, 21, of Enon Valley and Michael Koran, 20, of Moon Township were each charged with institutional vandalism, criminal mischief and criminal conspiracy. Mrosko said that high-quality images retrieved from security cameras in the parking garage at the university were used by police to identify the men.

Both suspects were placed in the Washington County Prison on a $5,000 straight cash bond following their arraignments Monday.

Mrosko said that the charges stem from an incident that occurred Feb. 26 when Ballengee and Koran damaged two university-owned Smart cars that were parked in the Vulcan Parking Garage located on campus.

Police said the men caused about $1,500 in damage to the cars.

Neither suspect is a student at Cal U. Police said they were visiting California when the incident occurred.

Mrosko said that after police distributed photos of the suspects in February, the images were recently used in a demonstration of the university’s security system and someone in attendance recognized the men.

Preliminary hearings for the suspects will be held at a later date in Washington.
