Edward L. Joyce
Edward L. Joyce, age 89, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, June 1, 2011 in the Lafayette Manor.
He was born October 17, 1921 in Cambria, Pa., the son of the late Edward Leo Joyce and Edith McGowan Joyce.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gertrude ‘Eileen’ Murphy Joyce, sisters: Margaret Norton and Bridget Kalich and a brother, Patrick Joyce.
Edward was a member of St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church. He was an United States Veteran service in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He was a member of the VFW Post 47, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post 51. He was a dedicated educator, teaching for 34 years in the Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond, Indiana. While teaching he also worked in the Steel Mill for 30 years with Inland Steel and 4 years with U.S. Steel. He loved Gardening and playing Golf.
He is survived by his loving sons: Edward L. Joyce Jr. and wife Susan of Los Alamos, New Mexico and James M. Joyce and wife Lisa of Union town; his loving granddaughter, Megan; brothers: Paul Joyce and wife Betty Lou of Highland, Indiana, Joseph Joyce of Valparaiso, Indiana and Robert Joyce and wife Sue of Taylor, Michigan; Nephew, Reverend Father Patrick Kalich of Crown Point, Indiana; sister-in-law, Lois Murphy of Uniontown; many other loving nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Friends will be received in the KEZMARSKY FUNERAL HOME, 71 Pennsylvania Avenue, Uniontown, PA on Friday, June 3, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday morning until 9:00 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church with Rev. Father Michael J. Crookston as Celebrant.
Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Military Honors will be accorded at Graveside.
