The Class of 2011 from Albert Gallatin Area High School will participate in graduation ceremonies on Friday.

The valedictorian for the Class of 2011 is Jeremy Alexander Rich of Smithfield.

?His honors include National Merit Scholarship Finalist, Fayette Chamber of Commerce Student of the Month, Top 20 Students, Challenge Program Highest GPA, Advanced Placement Scholar with Honors, Chess Club Champion, Albert Gallatin High School math team’s highest individual score, National Honor Society Historian and President, FBLA Business Math Regional Competition Winner, Elias and Rosemary Gabriel Scholarship (Carnegie Mellon), Masontown Exchange Club Scholarship, U.S. Marine Scholastic Excellence Award, Albert Gallatin Education Association Scholarship, Smithfield Rotary Scholarship, and the WPIAL Scholar Athlete Award.

In school, Rich as been active in the Interact Club, Foreign Language Club, Future Business Leaders of America state competition, president of the Young Astronauts, captain of the Math Team, Science Bowl, JETS Team, Hatfield Environmental Awareness Team, varsity football, varsity basketball, All County basketball and varsity cross country. He also placed first in the Math Academic League.

Outside of school, Rich volunteers in serving at Buckwheat Breakfast, highway trash collecting, Fairchance Garden Club and as a scorekeeper for the YMCA basketball program.

After graduation, Rich will attend Carnegie Mellon University, Mellon College of Science.

He is a son of Michael and Elizabeth Rich of Smithfield.

The Salutatorian for the class of 2011 is Jesse Rye Diamond of Masontown.

His honors include National Honor Society, Top 20 Students, Fayette Chamber of Commerce Student of the Month, Advanced Placement Program, Masontown Exchange Club Scholarship, Albert Gallatin Education Association Scholarship, Albert Gallatin Education Foundation Scholarship for Post-Secondary Education, Wolford Swimmer Memorial Scholarship, Mahlon & Ruth Franks Memorial Scholarship (presented by the Fayette County School Employees Credit Union), Fayette Chamber of Commerce Education Council Scholarship, Mountaintop Foundation Scholarship, West Virginia University Blue and Gold Academic Scholarship, U.S. Air Force Combined Math and Science Award, and the 4H Livestock Scholarship.

In school, Diamond was active with the Hatfield Environmental Awareness Team, Math Team, Chess Club, treasurer of the Young Astronauts, Foreign Language Club, Academic League, Math Academic League (1st Place), JETS Team, Envirothon, varsity soccer, varsity basketball, varsity cross country, and 4H Club.

Outside of school, Diamond is a member of the Masontown Brethren Church and its Youth Group. He has volunteered in community activities such as elementary basketball coach, Crop Walk, and Heart Walk.

After graduation, Diamond plans to attend West Virginia University where he will major in engineering.

He is a son of Louis and Gail Diamond of Masontown.
