Bruno Schiavon
Bruno Schiavon, 90, of Brownsville, PA (California Boro) died Monday, June 6, 2011 in Bridgeville, PA.
He was born March 12, 1921 in Monessen, PA, a son of the late Attilio and Amelia Pazzabon Schiavon.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in WW II as a Staff Sergeant in the 841st Aviation Engineers Battalion in the Philippines and New Guinea. For his service, he was awarded Meritorius Unit Award, Philippines Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Service Medal with two bronze stars, the American Theatre Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
For 35 years, he was employed by Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel at the Allenport Works until his retirement.
Mr. Schiavon enjoyed hunting and fishing.
On April 2, 1942, he married Mildred M. Bellich Schiavon who survives. They celebrated 69 years of marriage.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Bernadine Witchey of Lexington, KY; a son, Leonard Schiavon (Cindy) of Pittsburgh, PA; eight grandsons: Myles II and Bryan Witchey, Dennis, Jr., Daniel and Brandon Schiavon and Steven, Jonathan and Christopher Schiavon; two great-grandchildren: Wyatt and Sierra Witchey; one brother, Riddeo ‘Eddie’ Schiavon (Dorothy) of St. Cloud, FL and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased in addition to his parents, are a step-mother, Theresa Pistilli Schiavon; son, Dennis Schiavon, who died May 9, 2011 and a brother, Aldo Schiavon.
Friends will be received Thursday, June 9, 20ll from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. in the JOHN B. GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, PA.
Funeral services will be private and officiated by Rev. George Moneck.
Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery, California, PA.
