Fairchance to bid Kyle Ave. project
?Fairchance Borough Council has agreed to advertise for bids for a storm water drainage project on Kyle Avenue.
Council voted Wednesday to advertise the project.
Residents have been complaining about storm water flooding on Kyle Avenue for many years.
The borough obtained a $95,000 matching grant from the state in 2009 to address the problem and recently received an extension to use the grant money through next year.
Engineering plans for the project were approved by council last year.
Council also addressed several water supply issues at Wednesday’s meeting.
The panel turned down an offer from the North Fayette County Municipal Authority to take over water service for about 100 customers living on Pringle Lane and Greenbriar Drive because the borough can’t afford to lose that many customers.
Council plans to ask North Fayette to provide service to 31 customers on Dry Knob Hill.
The borough has been looking for ways to reduce the amount of water it draws from its water system.
Council voted to amend an ordinance to increase the water tap-in and activation fees.
The ordinance amendment would officially raise the tap-in fee from $180 to $1,500, which council agreed to do in April.
The fee to activate or turn off water service will increase to $50 from $10.
Council authorized the solicitor to prepare an ordinance making it illegal for people to activate a water tap without borough permission and establishing a $300 fine for violating the ordinance.
In unrelated business, council ratified the hiring of Russell Miller as a part-time police officer at $11 an hour. He started working last week.
