Robert G. Szczygiel
Robert G. Szczygiel, age 62 of Footedale, Pa. passed away quietly on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 in UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh as a result of cancer with his brothers at his side.
He was born November 30, 1948 in Uniontown, Pa., son of the late Walter Szczygiel and Ann (Kobylarz) Szczygiel.
Bob was a member of St. Thomas R. C. Church in Footedale. He attended German Township public schools and graduated from Kolb Memorial Catholic High School in Masontown in 1966.
He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Reserves after twenty-four years of service with the 1005th Quartermaster Company. He also served at other numerous Army bases and reserve centers.
He was a retired employee of the New Stanton Volks-wagon Plant and a member of United Auto Workers, a former employee of Uniontown Hospital, a former employee of American Red Cross and volunteered as a blood donor for over thirty years.
He was a member of Fairbank Rod and Gun Club, a former member of Fayette Gun Club, an avid hunter, a trap shooter and fisherman who tremendously enjoyed, in his earlier years, his big game hunts to Canada with his close friends and family. He loved the 4th of July celebration and especially the fireworks.
He is survived by his brothers: Walter Szczygiel and wife Jane of Greensburg, Daniel M. Szczygiel of Footedale with whom he resided and Richard A. Szczygiel of Jeffries Crossing; four aunts, one uncle and many cousins.
Friends will be received in DEARTH FUNERAL HOME, New Salem today (Friday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011 when brief prayers will be said in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas R. C. Church, Footedale with Rev. Fr. Peter L. Peretti as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in St. Thomas Church Cemetery, Footedale.
Parish Wake Service will be held Friday evening at 7:30 p.m.
