HOPWOOD — Uniontown Legion overcame a 2-0 deficit in the first to pound out 16 hits on its way to a 10-5 win over Connellsville, Wednesday afternoon.

Uniontown (6-3) got a big day at the plate from Tyler Dubovich, who had three hits that included a two-run homer, a double and three RBI. Alex Gabler picked up two hits to drive in three runs.

Coach Scott DeBerry was pleased with the pitching performance of Tyler Mayers who went 7 2/3 innings before turning the game over to Aaron King to finish up.

“I felt Tyler really threw the ball well after the first inning. He relaxed and kept them off-balance,” DeBerry said. “I think this team is starting to come together. We struggled early. We’d getting decent pitching and no hits. We’d hit the ball well and then give up some runs. Right now it seems like things are coming together for us and I hope it continues.”

Connellsville (3-4) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Garrett Brooks lead off with the first of his two hits in the game and stole second. John Malone was safe on a fielder’s choice when Brooks wandered off second on his ground ball to short. He was able to beat the throw back to the bag, leaving two on.

Colvin Adey followed with a double, driving in Brooks. Matt White grounded out to second, allowing Malone’s courtesy runner, C.J. Swink to score.

“We got up 2-0 early and then a few errors here and there and things got away from us,” Connellsville’s John Pryzbylinski said. “I told the guys we to do the fundamental things better and get back into a team mode. They’re a great bunch of guys who know to play baseball. They just need to do it together and I think we’ll be fine.”

Uniontown got a run back in the second. Eddie Dutkewycz was safe on an error at short, Tyler Dubovich singled, putting two on, and with one out, Mike Bochnak singled, driving in Gabler.

Uniontown took the lead in the fifth. Dutrkewycz was safe on an error before Dubovich hit a high fly to left that caught a tailwind for a two-run homer.

Uniontown took control of the game with four runs in the sixth inning. Mason Fordyce singled to left to start it off.
