Cattlemen’s association sponsors field day
The Pennsylvania Cattlemen’s Association will join with several co-sponsors to hold the 2011 PCA Summer Field Day at Frosty Springs Farm owned by Jim and Billie Cowell in Waynesburg July 2.
Co-sponsors of the event will include the PA Grazing Lands Coalition Initiative, the PA Simmental Association, the PA Center for Beef Excellence, the PA Beef Council, the Washington County Cattlemen, the Greene County Conservation District, the Penn State University Extension the PacattleWomens Association, Coastal Drilling, and Yost Drilling. Other co-sponsors are welcome to participate in the event.
?The field day will include up-to-date information on feed management and alternative energy. A marketing panel will be presented with panelists to cover four aspects of marketing to include forward contracting, direct marketing (discussion to include labeling options), auction services and direct shipment to packing facilities and cattle procurement for existing Pennsylvania programs. Farm and facility tours will emphasize the conservation practices highlighted on the farm. These will be led by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Capitalizing on the export market and requirements needed to enhance the bottom-line also will be featured. A hoof trimming and fitting demonstration will feature Simmental cattle raised at Frosty Springs and requirements to maintain a Johnes free herd will be discussed.
The afternoon will provide cattlemen the opportunity to hear the voice of National Cattlemen’s Beef Association as discussion relevant to current industry issues are addressed.
A noon lunch will be provided. There is a fee to register, which will be collected on site.
There will be commercial exhibitors demonstrating goods and services available to the cattle industry. Non profit agencies, which provide services, will also be in attendance.
