Larimer D. Roberts ‘Taxi’
Larimer D. ‘Taxi’ Roberts, 84, a lifelong resident of Point Marion, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter, with his loving children and grandchildren at his side, on Friday, June 17, 2011.
Born on Sunday, January 2, 1927 in Point Marion, he was the son of William Roberts and Opal (Costolo) Roberts.
A 1944 graduate of the now former Point Marion High School, he was a United States Army veteran of World War II.
He was a retired Yard Master, having worked for 42 years for the Monongahela Railway.
‘Taxi’ was an avid bowler who enjoyed bowling in leagues and with his beloved grandchildren.
A very skilled woodworker and cabinet maker, he loved the outdoors and hunting, and was well known in the area for his large gardens and the beautiful produce that he raised each year for his family and friends.
His beloved wife of 55 years, Lois Downing Roberts, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2009. Also deceased are his parents; and sisters, Arlene Truman and Beverly Gerhardt.
Surviving are his six children and their spouses: Mark and Connie Roberts of Garland, Texas, Jay and Gwen Roberts of Dallas, Georgia, Dee and Tracy Roberts of Point Marion, Dana and Laura Roberts, Lynchburg, Virginia Marilyn ‘M i s s y’ and Dave Eller, Sicklerville, New Jersey Christy and Tom Karpency of Adah, Pennsylvania; 23 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was a loving father and grandfather who provided well for his family and will be dearly missed!
Friends will be received in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, P o i n t Marion, PA 15474 on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Visitation will continue on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at the FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF POINT MARION from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the hour of the Service with Pastor Kathy Griffith officiating.
Interment will follow in Donaldson Cemetery, Cheat Lake, West Virginia. www.herod-rishel.com
