A Perryopolis man is in critical condition in an area hospital after being bitten by a rattlesnake in Dunbar Township Sunday afternoon.

Rick Adobato, director of Fayette EMS said the 47-year-old man arrived at the Fayette EMS station at the Fayette County Fairgrounds at 2:28 p.m. reporting he had been bitten by the snake.

“According to the victim and his family, they were hiking in an area of the Dunbar Mountains when he dropped his walking stick,” Adobato said. “He apparently bent down to retrieve it when the snake bit him on one of his fingers.”
