Fire guts home in Springhill Township

Fire ripped through a Springhill residence Wednesday night, destroying the house and displacing two families.

?Point Marion Volunteer firefighters said they responded to the blaze that broke out at 11:34?p.m. at the residence on Nilan Hill Road.

According to firefighters, no one was home when the fire began and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation by the state police fire marshal.

Firefighters said no one was injured while battling the fire and said that the house was “a total loss.”

Officials said that volunteer firefighters from Point Marion, Smithfield and Fairchance remained on scene until about 3:30?a.m. Thursday.

The Fayette County Chapter of the American Red Cross said it is assisting one family of five — four adults and a child — and a family of six — one adult and five children — with food and clothing.
