Charges withdrawn in alleged assault on North Union grandmother
?Prosecutors withdrew all charges against a North Union Township man accused of assaulting his elderly grandmother at their home last month.
State police Trooper Jason C. Hatalsky said Dennis Ray Saynes Jr. , 29, was charged before Magisterial District Judge Mike Defino Jr. with simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.
The charges were withdrawn Wednesday at Magisterial District Judge Wendy Dennis’s office at the request of the alleged victim, Betty Saynes.
Hatalsky said the incident occurred May 28 when police responded to the Saynes’ residence for a report of an assault.
Hatalsky said Dennis Saynes got into an argument with his grandmother regarding his girlfriend after Betty Saynes allegedly called her names. Dennis Saynes then punched her twice and pushed her, Hatalsky said. He also damaged the front door of the residence by kicking it as he left the home.
Hatalsky said police immediately alerted Uniontown Firemen’s Ambulance to respond to the home to assess Betty Saynes’ condition as she recently came home from a stay in an area hospital for congestive heart failure.
Hatalsky said Betty Saynes did not suffer internal injures from the assault but did sustain injuries to both of her arms, Hatalsky said.
Dennis Saynes was taken into custody at the scene without incident.
