Charges dismissed against Uniontown man accused of assault

1 min read

All charges were dismissed this afternoon against a Uniontown man accused of assaulting his girlfriend Feb. 21.

Uniontown police Officer Jamie Holland said William Cecil Abbey, 56, was charged before Magisterial District Judge Randy S. Abraham with simple assault and harassment after he assaulted Rose Shaffer, 53, of Uniontown.

However, during a preliminary hearing held today before Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros, Shaffer testified that Abbey never meant to hurt her as he simply struck her in the face by accident while she tried to keep him inside their Uniontown residence to avoid a public drunkenness charge.

Holland said the fight occurred at an apartment on Pittsburgh Street shortly after 6 p.m. when Abbey caused multiple injuries to Shaffer’s face during a dispute.
