Pittsburgh Marathon
Organizers add 5K race
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Organizers have added a 5K race to be run the day before the Pittsburgh Marathon.
The 3.1-mile race will be held on May 14.
Registration opens March 7 and will be limited to the first 2,000 runners. The registration fee is $30 and more information is available at www.pittsburghmartahon.com.
A half-marathon, also sponsored by the UPMC Health Plan, is already sold out.
About 18,000 runners are expected to participate in the marathon, half-marathon and marathon relay.
The marathon returned from a five-year hiatus in 2009 with 10,500 runners. The city had stopped offering the race because of sponsorship issues and costs including police overtime.
