Brownsville to hold first St. Patrick’s Day parade
Brownsville will hold its first-ever St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 19. The parade will step off at noon with lineup beginning at 10:30 a.m. The parade will line up in the borough lot off Brown Street and proceed onto Brown Street, onto Market Street and proceed through downtown Brownsville, turn right onto Bank Street and proceed down Water Street where it will disband at the South Brownsville VFD. The parade will be held rain, snow or shine.
Invitations are being sent out to all local fire departments, veteran’s organizations, student organizations and civic clubs. “We cordially invite all local community groups to participate. We want to see everyone dressed in their green,” organizers stated.
Trophies will be awarded to fire departments in the following categories: best engine, ladder, rescue, brush unit and judge’s choice. There will also be trophies awarded for the best EMS unit, best marching unit and “Most Irish.” Trophies are sponsored by local businesses and community organizations.
“Brownsville is a diverse and proud ethnic community. Even though St. Patrick’s Day is an Irish holiday, we want everyone to come out and celebrate their own heritage,” organizers stated.
Organizations that would like to participate or businesses that would like to sponsor a parade trophy, can call parade co-chairmen Ron Barry at 724-984-3243 or Teresa Hosler at 724-785-3748.
