James Craig “Jim” Kennedy
James Craig “Jim” Kennedy, 73, Uniontown, Pennsylvania passed away Thursday, March 3, 2011 with his Family by his side in the Jefferson Regional Medical Center, Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania.
He was born March 5, 1937 in Connellsville, Pennsylvania the son of James W. Kennedy and Catherine Smith Kennedy.
“Jim” graduated from the now former South Union High School, Class of 1955, and also from California State Teachers College (now C a l i f o r n i a University of Pennsylvania).
He served in the United States Army for six years.
Before retiring, Mr Kennedy was employed for 35 years in the Laurel Highlands School D i s t r i c t as a V i s u a l Communications teacher.
He was a Boy Scout Leader, Troop 610, in Uniontown, Silver Beaver Recipient, Old Trails District Committeeman, Order of the Arrow Wagion Lodge No. 6, Explorer Post 792 in New Salem; Mr. Kennedy was a Professional Scouter.
He also belonged to the PABA (Pennsylvania Area Blacksmith Association), the Fayette County Beekeepers Association and also the Dairy Goat Association.
He was predeceased by his parents; and by his sister, Drusilla “Billie” Young.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of fifty-one years, Josephine “Cooky” Ann (Gall) Kennedy; children: two daughters, Colleen Ann (Daniel) Caldwell and Suzanne Lynn (Stephen) Shimatzki, and sons, James Wolfe Kennedy, S t e p h e n G l e n n (Beth) Kennedy, Timothy Michael Kennedy, Gregory Scott (Yvonne) Kennedy, Daniel Jay (Rhonda) Kennedy; eighteen grandchildren: John, Sarah and Danny Caldwell; Katie, Zak and Emily Kennedy; Tim, Tabitha and Tori Kennedy; Devon, Logan and Kerrigan Kennedy; Dillon, Amanda, Ashton and Emma Kennedy; Sedric and Serenity Shimatzki; sisters: Janet (Glenn) Snyder and Dr. Barbara Kennedy.
Friends and Family will be received in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR. FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and 7 River Avenue, Masontown, Pennsylvania (724.583.8811) today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday, March 7, 2011 until 10 a.m., the hour of the Service in the John S. Maykuth Jr. Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Rufus Peer officiating.
Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
Old Trails Scout Vespers will be held in the Funeral Home today at 7 p.m.
Visitation was also held on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in James’ name to the Boy Scouts of America, Westmoreland-Fayette Council, Two Garden Center Drive, Greensburg, PA 15601 or the American Heart Association.
