Wedding spurs reunion on ‘AMC’

By Nancy M. Reichardt 3 min read

Tad (Michael E. Knight) is marrying Cara (Lindsay Hartley) in order to help her avoid deportation, and the wedding will bring original cast member Ray MacDonnell back to the “All My Children” fold as Joe, the Martin patriarch. MacDonnell decided to retire from the show rather than move to Los Angeles when production of “AMC” transferred there this past January. To deal with his decision to leave, the show moved Joe and Ruth Martin to Florida after their retirement from their longtime jobs at Pine Valley Hospital.

And speaking of Ruth, Lee Meriwether, who began playing the character in 1996, will also return for Tad and Cara’s wedding. Meriwether last appeared on the show in the summer of 2010. MacDonnell and Meriwether will both appear on March 8 and March 9.

SHORT TAKES

Debbi Morgan, who plays Angie on “All My Children,” will return from her personal leave on March 8.

Last week, we told you that “General Hospital” had planned to eliminate Rebecca Herbst and her character, Elizabeth Webber, from the show’s teeming world. Well, “GH” has had a change of heart, and Herbst will be staying after all. Rumor has it so many fans of Herbst and her character objected to her ouster that it could have influenced the decision of the powers-that-be.

ABC released the following statement: “Rebecca Herbst will continue on ‘General Hospital’ as Elizabeth Webber. The show is thrilled she will remain on the canvas to portray the beloved character in many more poignant and emotional stories. Fans will be pleased to see Rebecca continue the role she created.”

Kourtney Kardashian, star of the E! reality-television series “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” and “Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami,” will make her acting debut on “One Life to Live” this month. Kardashian’s scenes will be with Kassie DePaiva (Blair) and David Fumero (Cristian). She won’t be playing herself on the show, and she supposedly will be stirring up some trouble in Llanview.

Talk-show host Wendy Williams will make a return appearance on “OLTL” on March 2, as tabloid TV show “Access Llanview” host Phyllis Rose. Williams will appear again on the March 28 episode when “Access Llanview” will feature “The Buchanans: A Family Under Siege.” Williams will also appear in a scene with Kardashian.

With the death of Cane Ashby on “The Young and the Restless,” Daniel Goddard is off the show. But then again, even though viewers saw him die, this is soap opera and his wouldn’t be the first character to return from the dead. Meanwhile, Goddard is recovering from injuries in real life that occurred in a mo-ped crash while on vacation in Mexico.
