Joseph Holonich, age 90, a former resident of Edenborn, Pennsylvania died suddenly on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 in Olney, Maryland.

He was born on Wednesday, October 20, 1920 in Edenborn, Pennsylvania the son of John Holonich and Anna (Bolas) Holonich.

“Joe” was affectionately known as “Chubby” by his Family and many Friends.

He was a devoted member at Saint Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church in Uniontown, Pennsylvania where he served as an Usher for many years.

During World War II, he proudly served his country with the United States Army 82nd Airborne D i v i s i o n Paratroopers in the European T h e a t r e o f Operations.

He was a retired Coal Miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of America and a Life Member of Fort Mason American Legion Post 423 in Masontown, Pennsylvania.

He was also a Life Member and Past Treasurer for 20 years at the E d e n b o r n Volunteer Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie A. “Babe” (Cavalcante) Holonich; brothers, A n d r e w “Bozo” Holonich, G e o r g e “Geech” Holonich and John “Skinny” Holonich; and sister, Margaret Kingora.

Surviving are two children: a son, Joseph J. Holonich and his wife Carolyn of Olney, Maryland with whom he recently made his home; a daughter, Carmella Holonich Priches and her husband Ken of Florida; four grandchildren: Kathleen Marie Holonich, Stephen Joseph Holonich, Matthew James Holonich and Kristen Michele Holonich all of Olney, Maryland; a brother, Michael “Spook” Holonich and his wife Mary of Carmichaels, Pennsylvania; a sister, Anna Marie Stunja of Edenborn, Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Millie Cavalcante, Masontown, Pennsylvania; also seven nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in the HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., 515 North M a i n Street, Masontown, Pennsylvania today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 until 9 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in Saint Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, 61 Mill Street in Uniontown with Monsignor Michael W. Matusak, V.F., Pastor, as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in S a i n t A g n e s Cemetery, Masontown, Pennsylvania where Military Honors will be accorded by the Faith-Gray-McArdle Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 423.

Parish Wake Service will be held in the Funeral Home this afternoon at 3 p.m.

Edenborn Volunteer F i r e D e p a r t m e n t will hold a M e m o r i a l S e r v i c e in the Funeral Home this evening at 7 p.m.

Visitation was also held on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
