Joseph A. “Joe” Smetanka
Joseph A. “Joe” Smetanka, 75, of Perryopolis, PA passed away on Monday, March 7, 2011 in UPMC, Mercy Hospital with his loving family by his side.
He was born on July 14, 1935 in Connellsville, PA, son of the late Joseph F. and Jane E. Laska Smetanka
Joe was employed by US Steel at Clairton for 36 years and was also a farmer his entire life. He loved farming and he loved his animals.
He served in The United States Armed Forces.
Joe is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janice A. Groves Smetanka; five children: Joseph A. Smetanka of Perryopolis, PA, Kimberly Russian of Daisytown, PA, Timothy A. Smetanka of Perryopolis, PA, Denice M. Grimm and Fiance’, Brian Joseph of Perryopolis, PA and Janice A. Smetanka of Perryopolis, PA; four grandchildren: Elaine Smetanka, Kimberly Jo Smetanka, Candace Murin and Raymond Grimm; four great-grand-children: Blaine, Hayden, Jeremiah and Raelynn; one sister, Martha Hela of Perryopolis, PA and his beloved dog, Coco.

Friends will be received in THE SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 135 Park Street, Brownsville, PA today from 6-9 PM, Thursday from 2-4 and 6-9 PM and on Friday, where a Prayer Service will be held at 9:15 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in the St. John The Baptist R.C. Church, Perryopolis, PA with Rev. Father Robert Lubic as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the LaFayette Memorial Park, where full military rites will be accorded by American Legion Posts 295, 940, & 838.
