Zoning board ponders exception to build store

The Wharton Township Zoning Hearing Board is reviewing an application for a special exception to build a Dollar General store on Route 40 at Rankin Road.

The board held a hearing on Wednesday into the application from GBT Realty Corp. of Brentwood, Tenn., for the special exception to build the 10,640-square-foot store on property zoned for multiple-family dwellings owned by the George Family Limited Partnership.

Board Chairman Thomas Baxter said no one opposed the exception at the hearing, but the board would review the application and render a decision within 45 days.

The board would probably require the developer to place some type of screening around the property to shield neighboring property owners from the store’s lights, he said.
