THE ANSWERS

1. B, Bob Bailor

The Connellsville native and Geibel High School graduate played for four Major League teams between 1975 and 1985.

After he retired as an active player, he continued his career in management.

While serving as a coach for the Toronto Blue Jays they won back-to-back World Series championships in 1992, and again in 1993.

However, if you chose C, Tom Holliday, you weren’t far from being correct. Holliday served as an assistant coach when the Arizona State University Sun Devil baseball team won the College World Series in 1977.

The Uniontown High School graduate would also serve as the pitching coach for the 2005 University of Texas Longhorn’s won the College World Series.

By the way, Holliday’s son, Matt, won the 2007 National League batting championship while playing for the Colorado Rockies. He now plays for the St. Louis Cardinals.

2. B, Fayette County, Kentucky

According to the U.S. Bureau of Census, American Fact Finder survey for 2005-2009, Fayette County, Ky., has an estimated 287,537 residents.

Our county, using the latest U.S. Census numbers has a population of 136,606.

The Fayette Counties, in order of population size range in the following order: Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Georgia, West Virginia, Tennessee , Ohio, Indiana, Texas, Illinois, Iowa, Alabama.

Fayette County, Ala., has the smallest of the Fayette County populations at 17,651.

3. D, Uniontown, Pennsylvania

In fact, Uniontown’s population is larger than all of the other Uniontowns combined.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Uniontown’s population estimate is 10,372.

That’s more than twice the total number of people who live in: Uniontown, Ala., (1,867); Uniontown CDP (Census designated place), Ohio, (2,405); Uniontown, Wash., (211); Uniontown, Ky., (608); Uniontown, Kansas, (407) Uniontown, Ark., (an unincorporated community in Crawford County, Arkansas), (306).

Uniontown’s most recent population estimate is less than half the all-time high for the city. The 1940 census indicated that 21,819 people lived in Uniontown.

4. D, Connellsville, Pennsylvania

It’s also the largest. That’s because there are no other towns, cities, or boroughs named Connellsville in the country – outside of Pennsylvania.
