Software seminar scheduled
St. Vincent College Small Business Development Center will host a seminar entitled, “Making Good Software Decisions for Your Company,” from 9 a.m. to noon March 30 at St. Vincent College, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The seminar, presented by Ethix Systems, will address data entry, software customization, licensing, database concerns and how to avoid getting scammed by a software salesperson. Participants will learn the pluses and minuses of different types of software, how to use the software that they have, what do to when software doesn’t work, how to avoid needless data entry, and more. This program will demonstrate how to get the greatest return from an IT investment by choosing the most effective and beneficial software for a company. Three CPE other credits are available on request.
There is a fee to attend that includes a one-year subscription (12 issues) to Inc. magazine.
The SBDC is part of a statewide system of university-based economic development organizations, whose mission is to provide education and consulting to entrepreneurs, to help them start and grow their businesses in the competitive global economy. Resort site of training program

Winery wins medals at farm show
The Christian W. Klay Winery, Chalk Hill, won a silver and a bronze medal at the annual Pennsylvania Farm Show Wine Competition, which was held in January in Harrisburg.

Small businesses honored
The nation’s top entrepreneurs will be honored at the U.S. Small Business Administration’s National Small Business Week events May 18-20 in Washington, D.C. Under the theme, “Empowering Entrepreneurs,” a series of events and educational forums will mark the 58th anniversary of the agency and the 48th annual proclamation of National Small Business Week.
More than 100 outstanding small business owners from across the country will receive awards while gathering for three days at the city’s Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
They will meet with top administration officials, congressional representatives and national business leaders. The highlight of the celebration will be the announcement of the National Small Business Person of the Year.
Men and women also will be recognized for their involvement in disaster recovery, government contracting, and their support for small businesses and entrepreneurship, and awards will be presented to SBA partners in financial and entrepreneurial development, including the year’s top SCORE Chapter, Small Business Development Center and Women’s Business Center.
