Charges dropped against Morgantown man

1 min read

All charges against a Morgantown, W.Va. man accused of assaulting a South Union Township woman were dismissed this morning after she failed to appear in court.

Magisterial District Judge Joseph M. George Jr. issued a warrant for the arrest of Lasha Deberry after she failed to appear in court to testify regarding the charges against Cooper and to answer to a charge of providing false reports to law enforcement.

Police allege she made a bogus call to 911 to report an attempted robbery to cover up an assault by her boyfriend, Stefan K. Cooper Jr. during a domestic dispute.

State police Trooper Craig M. Soltis said that Cooper was charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct for his alleged role in the incident.

George dismissed those charges today, after Deberry failed to appear in court.
