Home nurse faces charges
?A home nurse from Smithfield is facing multiple charges after she allegedly stole medication from an elderly patient in Uniontown.
Uniontown police Officer Jamie Holland said Misty Lee Reckart, 26, of 1 Rose Drive was charged with neglect of care of a dependent person, theft, receiving stolen property and possession of a controlled substance.
Holland said the charges were filed against Reckart after she stole oxycodone pills from Helen Howard of Uniontown.
He said that Howard’s son filled a prescription for his 80-year-old mother March 13 for the painkiller and that when he returned later that day, several pills were missing.
Holland said that he then contacted a Hopwood-based home-care company. He said company representatives told police that Reckart had provided in-home care for Howard on March 13.
Holland said that Reckart agreed to be interviewed by police during which she allegedly confessed to stealing the medicine March 13 and to stealing another pill from her in the weeks prior to March 13.
A preliminary hearing will be held for Reckart at a later date before Magisterial District Judge Michael M. Metros.
This is not Reckart’s first encounter with police.
She is awaiting a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Randy S. Abraham on charges of theft and conspiracy to commit theft following an incident in Georges Township in November.
State police filed those charges in late February.
