Tax service donates to charity

Uniontown area Jackson Hewitt Tax Service recently announced the launch of “Big Checks for Charity,” a campaign to raise money for the American Red Cross.

Through April 18 taxpayers who visit the Uniontown Jackson Hewitt office will receive a discount on tax preparation while helping to make a charitable donation. The office will offer coupons to taxpayers when a return is filed. For every return prepared, the Uniontown office will donate $10 to the Red Cross.

“Jackson Hewitt has dedicated March 21 to April 18 to this special program as a way to give back, both to our clients for choosing to work with Jackson Hewitt and to the Red Cross,” said Sherry Walters, manager of the Uniontown Mall office and Connie Conrad, manager of the Gallatin Avenue office.

Supermarket raise relief funds

Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets have announced that, along with its sister Ahold USA supermarkets, $100,000 will be donated to the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief Fund to support disaster relief efforts to help those affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Additionally, continuing through April 3, Giant and Martin’s will be collecting donations in all stores for the victims of the natural disasters in Japan on behalf of the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Fund. All of the money collected will be donated to relief efforts.
