Leona Mae Nickler Connor

Leona Mae Nickler Connor went home to be with the Lord on March 26, 2011 in the evening hours. She went peacefully in her home with her loving family and friends close to her heart.

Leona was born April 5, 1929 in Crucible, Pa., the daughter of the late Anthony and Josephine Nickler. She was one of six children.

Leona was a deeply spiritual person and attended Calvary Baptist Church. She was always ready to lend a helping hand and always put the needs of others before her own.

She was very active during her life. She worked as a secretary in the Carmichaels School District, then the First National Bank of Carmichaels early in her marriage.

Leona devoted her life to her family, raising her son and in later years devoting her life to her beloved grandchildren: Jessica, Hilary and Jordan. She is affectionately known as Grammy to hundreds of Teens as well as being famous for her pepperoni rolls and tollhouse cookies.

She was an avid golfer, liked to bowl and was always ready for a good game of cards. She enjoyed deep conversations on long rides, spinning a few slot machines and attending her kids’ events.

She is predeceased by her husband, Jack W. Connor; brothers: Rudolf Nickler, Paul Nickler, Robert Nickler and James Nickler and wife Marilyn.

Leona is survived by her son, Jack W. Connor and wife Lee Ann; grandchildren: Jessica Diener and husband Avery, Hilary Connor and Jordan Connor; her sister, Doris Danser and husband Donald; sisters-in-law: Peggy Nickler, Elizabeth (Becky) Nickler and Barbara Nickler as well as her former daughter-in-law, Deana Tsang; many nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws and neighbors to numerous to name.

All who knew and loved her are invited to join in celebrating her life at the KEZMARSKY FUNERAL HOME, 71 Pennsylvania Avenue, Uniontown, Pa. today, March 29, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday morning until 10 a.m. the hour of service with Rev. Joe Ritz officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the Service.

Private interment for the family will be in Greene County Cemetery later in the afternoon.
