Nationwide test of emergency system planned

Officials from Fayette County Emergency Management Agency is advising area residents to be prepared for the first-even nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) next week.

Susan Griffith, public information officer, said that the county’s emergency management officials will work in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), to conduct the first nationwide EAS test at 2 p.m. Wednesday. 

Griffith said in a press release that EMA officials are explaining the tests in advance to minimizing undue public concern or misunderstanding about the event and to reduce alarm during the test.
