House resolution marks Fallingwater anniversary

HARRISBURG — The state House of Representatives has unanimously adopted a resolution marking the 75th anniversary of Fallingwater.

House Resolution 490, introduced by state Rep. Tim Mahoney, D-South Union Township, acknowledges the brilliance of the design of the home and its significance as a popular tourist site in Mill Run.

“Fallingwater is a brilliant example of Wright’s plans to integrate the property with the environment,” Mahoney said.

“It is truly a one-of-a-knd structure of which all Pennsylvanians should be proud.”

In 1964, the Kaufmann family entrusted the home to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, which has been responsible for its preservation and operation as a tourist site since then. About 4 million visitors have visited the site since then.

Fallingwater is the only major residence designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright which is open to the public with its original furnishings, including the Kaufmann family’s artwork, intact.
