Mrs. Mary Correal Springer, 102, of Shippensburg, Pa. and formerly of Uniontown, Pa., died November 14, 2011.

Born May 26, 1909 in Masontown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Guisippi and Rozina Correal. She lived most of her life in Uniontown, Pa. moving to Shippensburg to live with her son in 2002.

She and her husband, the late Clifford Taft Springer, were married December 20, 1943. Mr. Springer died January 20, 2004.

Mary worked for many years in various positions at the Fayette County Court House. She also worked in juvenile services and as a teachers’ aide in the Intermediate Unit. She later worked as a waitress for the Shady Side Inn, the White Swan, and the Summit Inn.

She volunteered at the Uniontown Hospital as one of the first Gray Ladies.

Mary donated a piano to every elementary school classroom attended by her son. She was responsible for naming Poplar Lane Court in Uniontown and donated many books to one of her favorite places, the Uniontown Library. She was a firm believer in higher education goals and accomplishments. As the matriarch of her family she encouraged siblings, her son, and all her nieces and nephews to continue on to a higher education. Mary attended Penn State University in her late 60’s.

She was a member of St. John’s Church, Uniontown, Pa.

She is survived by one son, Clifford Thomas Springer, Shippensburg, Pa.; one grandson, Lee Garner Springer, Washington, D.C.; one brother, Donald Correal and wife Susan, Uniontown, Pa.; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Carrol Springer Lourie and Eve Curico.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
