Another burglary charge levied in Bear Rocks break-ins

For the fourth straight month, police have filed additional charges against an Acme man accused of breaking into 10 homes in the Bear Rocks area of Bullskin Township earlier this year.

State police Trooper James A. Pierce said Daniel Henry Ward, 26, was charged Thursday by Magisterial District Judge Ronald Haggerty Jr. with additional counts of burglary and theft for stealing items owned by Judy and Lee Weingerg from their residence on Rockpool Road. Police have filed sporadic charges over the last few months against Ward, along with his alleged co-conspirator, Sommer L. Inks, 27, of Hibbs, as they continue to probe a rash of burglaries and thefts in the Bear Rocks area in June.

Pierce said Inks and Ward broke into at least 10 homes during the month and stole a variety of items, including televisions, video equipment, jewelry, money, vehicles, prescription medication and guns.

Pierce said that investigators also discovered that copper wire and appliances had been removed from some of the residences where it appeared the two were squatting, said police.

During the search of a nearby wooded area, police additionally located other items belonging to Ward and Inks, and jewelry, coins, clothing and video equipment that also had been reported as stolen.

Both suspects now face dozens of charges.

Pierce said that other than the new counts filed Thursday, Ward has waived all other charges filed against him to Fayette County Court.

Preliminary hearings for Ward and Inks will be held at later dates before Haggerty.
