Two arrested for alleged burglary
Two men are in the Fayette County Prison, charged with burglary after they were allegedly caught trying to break into a South Union Township home Monday morning.
Police said David Smith, 19, of Smock and Timothy McKinney Jr., 30, of New Salem tried to flee from a state police trooper who responded to a Walnut Hill Road home around 9:30 a.m. after someone called in a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area.
When Trooper Kelly D. Hoyle arrived, he said that Smith and McKinney were outside a home there, and fled from police. Police checked the home, and said that rooms inside the home were ransacked, and there was other evidence of a burglary.
Smith and McKinney were each charged with burglary, attempted burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief and theft by unlawful taking. They were arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Joseph M. George Jr., and put in the county lockup in lieu of $10,000 straight cash bond.
Both face preliminary hearings on Nov. 30.
