Local police department offers new service

By Josh Krysak heraldstandard.Com 1 min read

Southwest Regional police are now offering a new community notification service to help keep residents in their coverage areas informed of incidents or events to ensure public safety.

The system, called Nixle, issues an alert message by text message or email to cellphone users that subscribe to the service.

Instances where police hope to utilize the alert system include notifications about missing people, public safety emergencies, road closures and community events like parades and picnics.

Officials said the system has already been put to use.
