1 min read

WASHINGTON, Pa. — A defendant in a 1977 homicide case this past week entered a guilty plea before Washington County Judge Paul Pozonsky.

David Bernard Davoli, 54, of Charleroi pleaded guilty to charges of hindering apprehension and tampering with physical evidence in the death of Mary Irene Gency that occurred 34 years ago. He had previously been charged with homicide. That charge is pending.

Gency was 16 years old when she was beaten to death in February 1977. Her body was found in Fallowfield Township.

In exchange for his guilty plea, Davoli has agreed to testify against a co-defendant in the case, Robert William Urwin Jr., 54, of Dunlevy. Urwin is charged with criminal homicide. Davoli will be sentenced at a later date.
