UPDATE: North Union fire kills family pet

By Rebekah Sungala heraldstandard.Com 1 min read

A fire blamed on a kerosene heater caused major damage to a North Union Township home this afternoon and killed the family’s pet.

Officials said the blaze erupted at the 1353 Connellsville St. residence around 2:40 p.m.

A firefighter with North Union Township Volunteer Fire Department, the primary responder on the call, said no one was home when the blaze began.

No people were injured in the fire. However, a small dog that was the family’s pet died in the blaze, officials said.

The Red Cross was believed to be assisting at least two people with housing and other needs following the fire, officials said.
