Program scheduled to combat underage drinking
A program to raise awareness amongst high school students about the consequences of underage drinking will be held Monday at the State Theatre in Uniontown.
Eleventh grade students from all five Fayette County high schools will attend the program and hear a presentation from Jim Mothersbaugh of Road Radio USA.
Mothersbaugh was involved in a fatal drunk driving accident in 1984 and still suffers from symptoms resulting from brain injury. He will provide a firsthand account of the consequences of underage drinking.
Sponsored by state Rep. Tim Mahoney, Fayette County Drug and Alcohol Commission, Edgar Snyder & Associates and 84 Lumber founder Joe Hardy, the program will precede a public underage drinking town hall meeting to be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ivory Ballroom in Uniontown.
Members of the drug and alcohol commission, Uniontown and state police and juvenile probation will participate in a panel discussion at the town hall meeting.
Both events are being held in response to an alcohol-related crash that occurred Sept. 10 in Wharton Township that claimed the life of 17-year-old Zack Nelson.
