Company to evaluate equipment in Greene 911 center
WAYNESBURG — Greene County commissioners approved a contract Thursday that will enable a company to review and evaluate equipment used in the county’s 911 center.
The contract with Mission Critical Partners Inc. will allow the company to evaluate the current telephone equipment that the county uses to process 911 calls.
County Chief Clerk Jeff Marshall said once the review is completed the company will then make recommendations for cost-saving measures and equipment upgrades.
Marshall said the contract is necessary for the county to eventually upgrade its 911 services.
“All of the equipment they will be evaluating, including computer equipment and 911 switches, is around 10 years old, and we are not currently not able to provide what they call ‘next-generation’ 911 services, so it’s good that they will be coming in to look at it,” Marshall said.
The contract totals about $70,000 and will paid for through state wireless allocation, Marshall said.
In a related matter, the commissioners approved a new customer service agreement with Windstream, which will enable the company to provide maintenance and support for the 911 center’s current equipment and systems.
The annual contract totals $20,000 and the cost will be split between the county’s 911 surcharge money and the county’s general fund, Marshall said.
The commissioners also agreed Thursday to provide $3,000 in funding for each of the volunteer fire companies in the county. Commissioner Pam Snyder said each company had to apply for the funding, which comes from the county’s general fund. The annual grant has been dispersed to the fire companies for the past seven years.
Fire companies receiving the funding this year are: Graysville, Bobtown and Dunkard Township, Mount Morris, Clarksville, Jefferson, Richhill Township, Waynesburg-Franklin Township, Morris Township, Greensboro-Mon Township, Crucible, Rices Landing, Nemacolin, Wayne Township, Center Township, Carmichaels-Cumberland Township and New Freeport.
