Acme man injured in crash

By Josh Krysak heraldstandard.Com 1 min read

An Acme man suffered serious injuries when the tri-axle he was driving overturned on Route 30 in Westmoreland County on Tuesday afternoon.

State police said the crash occurred when Charles Pluck, 60, was traveling westbound on Route 30 near the junction with Route 136 in Hempfield Township shortly after noon.

Police said that as Pluck was traveling west, a car driven by Molly Giannuzzi, 22, of Homestead entered the road from an on-ramp and traveled directly into the passing lane of travel, where Pluck was operating his truck.

Pluck’s truck and Giannuzzi’s car collided, causing the car to crash into a guardrail and the tri-axle to overturn, police said.

Pluck’s truck was hauling gravel, which spilled onto the road and forced a temporary closure while crews worked to clear the scene.

Giannuzzi also suffered minor injuries, police said.

Updates on the drivers’ conditions were not available.

Police said that volunteer firefighters from three Westmoreland County fire departments, as well as state Department of Transportation officials, worked to remove the gravel and debris from the road.
