Charles Robert ‘Bob’ Hanyo
Charles Robert ‘Bob’ Hanyo, age 83 of Uniontown, Pa., died peacefully on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at home, with his beloved wife by his side. He was born on July 3, 1928 in Uniontown, Pa., son of Paul F. and Mary Elizabeth (Spirko) Hanyo.
His parents, brother, Peter Hanyo, and a sister, Ruth Aull preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Uniontown High school Class of 1946, and was a graduate of California University of Pennsylvania. He was an educator, and had taught at the Intermediate Unit.
Bob proudly served his country during the Korean War, with the United States Army, at the rank of Corporal, and was a member of the US Army National Band, as well as an original member of the V.F.W. national band.
Bob played as a professional musician at Twin Coaches, the Mt. Summit Hotel and The Wishing Well night club, along with many other venues. He was a life member of the George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 and President of the AMVETS Junior Golf Program; life member of VFW Post 47, life member of B.P.O. Elks #370, member of the Izaak Walton League of America, Hutchinson Sportsmen’s Club, life member of the Independent Slovak Citizen’s Club, and Springdale Golf Club.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 54 years, Veronica (Musial) Hanyo; his sister, Margaret Karner of Bel Air, Md..; a sister-in-law Marcella Caton of Wickliffe, Ohio; several nieces and nephews: Linda Karner, Ruth Turnquest, Chuck Karner, Mary Ruth Aull, Leah Bartunek, Dr. William Aull, John Caton, Richard Caton, Marcie Nassimbeni, Patti Ann Gogolin, John L. Musial, Kathleen McNamara and Marian Beirne; 12 great neices and nephews; and 7 great great neices and nephews.
Friends will be received in the STEPHEN R. H A K Y FUNERAL HOME, INC., 603 N. Gallatin Avenue Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Friday, September 2, from 4-9 p.m. and on Saturday, September 3, 2011 until 10:30 a.m., when closing prayer will be said.
The Funeral Service will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Uniontown, PA, with Rev. Paul Frank officiating.
Interment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Fairchance, PA, where military honors will be accorded by George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103.
