Uniontown man sentenced in fatal crash
The mother of a 16-year-old New Salem junior firefighter who died in a car accident asked in a letter that the man driving the car be sentenced to the maximum penalty allowed under the law.
“Please let justice be served so he can rest in peace,” read a letter that Kathy Kondrla wrote about the impact that the death of her son, Jonathan Kondrla, had on their family.
Kondrla was the passenger in a car driven by Christopher Kelley, 23, of Uniontown. Kelley was speeding on Upper Middletown Road in Menallen Township, when the car went airborn, spun out of control and crashed in a utility pole on the passenger side. Kondrla was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kelley pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle in the case, and was sentenced Thursday to three to six months in prison, plus 48 months on house arrest, with nine months served on electronic monitoring.
