Man sentenced in assault

By Heraldstandard.Com 1 min read

A Farmington man will serve 23 months of intermediate punishment over an assault last fall that his attorney called “an inter-family squabble.”

Michael McKnight, 49, will serve the first three months of that sentence on house arrest under the sentence issued Thursday by Fayette County Judge Steve P. Leskinen.

State police charged McKnight with aggravated assault and related counts after he brandished a butcher knife at two people, and punched them in the face during an argument at a home in Henry Clay Township on Oct. 17.

McKnight’s attorney, Jack W. Connor, said the fight involved McKnight and his stepson. McKnight told the judge that his stepson is no longer in the home.

Assistant District Attorney J.W. Eddy said the sentence was part of general plea reached with prosecutors.

Leskinen noted that the victims in the case consented to the plea.
