Logan F. Zaph ‘Bill’
Logan F. ‘Bill’ Zaph, age 88, of Fairchance, Pennsylvania passed away at home Friday, September 2, 2011 with his loving Family by his side.
He was born Tuesday, June 19, 1923 in Georges Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania the beloved son of Fred Zaph and Sara Swaney Zaph.
‘Bill’ was a Expert Rifleman who served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.
‘Bill’ enjoyed making his homemade wine and sharing it with family and friends, h u n t i n g, fishing, golfing, gardening, and sitting on the front porch drinking coffee with family and friends.
‘Bill’ was employed for many years until retirement a s a M i n e F o r e m a n with the United States Steel’s Maple Creek Mine.
He then was employed for five years as a Miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of America with the Shannopin Mining Company in Bobtown, Pennsylvania until his retirement again.
He also was a member of the Alfred E. Wilson Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7219 in Fairchance, the Hutchinson Sportsmen’s Club and the First Baptist Church of Fairchance.
He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Sara; by his brother, Finley Smiley; sister, Betty Wilson; and grandson, Brett Zaph.
Surviving are his loving Family: his wife of 65 years, Florence E. Hardy Zaph; son, Rick L. Zaph and his fianceé` Cindy Marnell of Fairchance; daughter, Diane King and her husband Rich King also of Fairchance; grandchildren: Rick L. Zaph II a n d h i s wife L a u r i e of Uniontown, Pennsylvania and Alison King of Fairchance; and his faithful dog and companion, Ootsie. “Uncle Bill” is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Family will receive Friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pennsylvania today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday, September 5, until 11 a.m. the hour of Service with Pastor Paul Solosky officiating.
Interment will follow in the Mount M o r i a h B a p t i s t Cemetery, Smithfield, where Military Rites will be accorded by General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood
