Produce to People food distribution set for Thursday
Produce to People, a local food distribution sponsored by the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and organized by Fresh Fire Church in Uniontown, will hold its monthly food distribution from 10 a.m. until about noon Thursday at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in Dunbar Township.
Gates will open for registration at 8:30 a.m. Participants are asked to bring a box or laundry basket to put their food in. There is no proof of income needed to qualify for the food.
The program continues to grow each month. The August distribution served about 1,350 people and 530 families. Produce to People also educates participants on other community programs. This month, representatives from Dress for Success, Adelphoi Village, Pennsylvania Institute of Health and Technology and the health department will be present. The Fayette County Assistance Office will have a representative available taking applications for food stamps and providing information on other programs available.
Organizers said volunteers are essential to the success of the program. Anyone interested in volunteering for the food distribution should contact the Rev. Adam Lawson of Fresh Fire Church in Uniontown at 724-437-9869 or by email pastor4freshfire@yahoo.com. Some organizations that currently support with volunteers include Target, United Way, Uniontown Food Bank, Fresh Fire Church, Pennsylvania Institute of Health & Technology and Chestnut Ridge Counseling in Uniontown.
